Working with Creative Entrepreneurs

There is a whole class of people out there that I called Creative Entrepreneurs. These are people whose career progression is not the same as those who follow a more standard “business career”. These are the “I just want to be me and express myself in the world” type of people, who tend to exist outside of the 9-to-5 world. This can be anything from freelance journalists, novelists, artists, musicians, advertising creative directors, yoga instructors, religious professionals (ministers, rabbis, spiritual healers, etc.), film editors, and the list goes on and on. The main thing about this group is that you usually don’t see a job posting on Monster.com for these types of positions.

Given that reality, there is a different way of working with people like you. I like to say that great artists who are successful marry both the creative with the business savvy to manage getting eyes on your work (Note: no matter what you think of Madonna’s artistic talent, this woman has a great business sense and has for 30 years).

Also, no one goes into these fields for the money. If you are, I assume you haven’t talked to many people in the field. Being a creative is hard work, and most people are in it because 1) they are driven to do it with a passion, and 2) they can’t not do it, even if they tried to stop.

I work with people on how to successfully make plans for the long haul to work toward success, and how to manage your creative juices, and support yourself along the way. It’s a balancing act, but one that is fascinating and energizing!
